Now that summer is winding down, we prepare to move into autumn and the beauty it brings to Banff. Even better, September and October usually feature much smaller crowds on the trails and lake, so you’re much more likely to have a tranquil experience. Access to most of the trails is still open, and most attractions are as well. You can wander our onsite walking trails, or venture out further on trails through picturesque grounds that are nestled in the majestic pines of Pigeon Mountain and connected to the surrounding wilderness for even more adventure.
While the weather may be a little cooler than our summer, it won’t be so cold that you can’t enjoy the outdoors while you’re here. Just be sure to bring some layers! Plus, with the plentiful trees turning their autumn amber and gold, you could not ask for a more scenic vacation. You may even get to see some early snow on the peaks! It’s the perfect time to explore our wonderful area, whether you do it on foot, bike, or horseback.
You’ll also catch the beginning of the Elk rutting, and you’ll regularly see large herds of elk near the town of Banff and throughout other areas of the park.
If you visit during the week of October 26 - November 3, be sure to check out the Banff Mountain Film & Book Festival! For nine epic days, you’ll get to see stories of daring expeditions, thrilling adventures, and more, all told through the perspective of adventurers, authors, photographers, and filmmakers from around the globe.
If you’d rather spend your time on the water, fall is the perfect time for it. The waters of Peyto Lake still maintain their beautiful blue color, and you won’t even realize it’s no longer summer! The color of the lake makes for a perfect pairing with the golden leaves, making your trip the most photogenic possible.
And of course, in case it gets too chilly, you can take a trip to the Banff Upper Hot Springs and warm up in the steamy pools. We also have a cozy lodge and heated indoor swimming pool in case you don’t want to leave the resort.
As you can tell, fall is one of the best times to visit us at Banff Gate Mountain Resort, and we can’t wait to see you. Find your perfect accommodations here!
